Genotype vs phenotype

The code and the creature

Teaching this? Open projector mode

The genotype is the allele pair a beast carries (CC, Cc, cc). The phenotype is the trait you actually observe (a cobalt or cream coat).

Two beasts with different genotypes (CC and Cc) can share the same phenotype — a hidden recessive allele makes the beast a carrier.
