Eight planets, one distance scale

Teaching this? Open projector mode

Compare Earth and Neptune using a single linear distance scale. In this simplified model the planets follow circular paths at their reference distances and mean speeds. The orbital markers are enlarged so they remain selectable. Advancing one Earth year barely moves Neptune around its much longer path. The starting arrangement is arbitrary, not today’s sky.
